Bacalar, Quintana Roo — A collision between a pickup truck and a Volkswagen sedan on Federal Highway 307 near the entrance to the Pueblo Mágico of Bacalar caused significant traffic disruption and property damage on Tuesday.
The crash occurred on the southbound lane of the highway near the Laguna Hotel, leaving both vehicles with visible structural damage that partially blocked the roadway. Authorities from the Public Security Department responded promptly to the scene after receiving emergency calls.
Preliminary reports suggest the pickup truck driver may have struck the Volkswagen sedan, commonly known as a “Vocho,” though officials have not confirmed the exact cause or mechanics of the collision.
Security personnel secured the area, implemented traffic control measures, and coordinated vehicle flow while investigating the incident. The damaged vehicles remained on the federal highway, reducing passage for motorists traveling through the area.
While there were initial reports of a possible injured person at the scene, authorities have not issued an official statement confirming any injuries or the number of people involved. The information remains unconfirmed pending further investigation.
The accident occurred near one of the main access points to the tourist destination, creating temporary complications for vehicular circulation as authorities worked to clear the wrecked vehicles and restore normal traffic flow.
Security officials remained at the site to gather evidence that could help determine how the collision occurred and assign responsibility. Authorities have not yet announced what caused the impact.
