Cancun, Quintana Roo — A man and woman shot dead in a Cancun neighborhood remained unidentified Friday morning as authorities continued investigating the motive behind the attack, sources at the State Prosecutor’s Office reported.
The shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. Thursday on Anis Street in block 2 of the Region 110 neighborhood, in front of buildings 23 and 24 in the Paseo Kusamil subdivision. The couple had been talking beside a black Italika motorcycle without license plates when unknown assailants arrived and shot them at close range.
Forensic examination and autopsy determined the woman, approximately 30 years old, sustained gunshot wounds to her head, arm, wrist, and right hand, dying almost instantly. She had a medium build, wavy black hair, and wore a black Nike t-shirt, jeans, and white sandals.
The man had a stocky build, short hair, and stood just over 1.7 meters tall. He wore a gray shirt, shorts, and red sandals. Authorities said he suffered gunshot wounds to his head, face, neck, chest, and abdomen, and also likely died immediately.
At the scene, forensic experts found at least nine spent shell casings from a handgun, which they seized as evidence for ballistic testing. Investigators continue working to determine the motive for the attack, which so far has produced no arrests.
The bodies remain at the medical examiner’s office, awaiting family members to come forward and complete the necessary procedures.
