Cancún, Quintana Roo — A fugitive listed among Europe’s top 10 most wanted criminals was captured in Cancún on Thursday in a major joint operation involving Mexican federal and state security forces.
János “N,” a foreign national wanted by Hungarian authorities for drug trafficking, was arrested without incident on Avenida Politécnico in the Benito Juárez municipality following intelligence sharing with Hungarian security agencies.
The operation involved personnel from the Public Security and Citizen Protection Department (SSPC), Federal Prosecutor’s Office (FGR), Mexican Navy (Semar), Mexican Army (Defensa), National Guard (GN), National Migration Institute (INM), and Quintana Roo’s Citizen Security Department (SSC).
János “N” had an active arrest warrant in Hungary for drug trafficking, an Interpol Red Notice, and a European arrest warrant issued by Europol, placing him among Europe’s highest-priority security targets.
Following his arrest, authorities informed the suspect of his legal rights and turned him over to the National Migration Institute, which will determine his immigration status and coordinate his controlled deportation to Europe to face justice.
