Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A teenage girl was found dead in the backyard of her home in Playa del Carmen on Friday night, authorities said.
The girl, believed to be between 14 and 16 years old, was discovered hanging from a tree in the rear patio of her residence on Manzanilla Street in the Misión de las Flores neighborhood. Family members reported the incident around 8 p.m.
Preliminary information suggests the girl had experienced family abuse, though the State Prosecutor’s Office is investigating to confirm the circumstances. Police officers responded to the scene and requested agents and forensic experts from the State Prosecutor’s Office to process the area.
The body was transported to the Forensic Medical Service and will be handed over to relatives in the coming hours. The State Prosecutor’s Office is working to determine if the death was a suicide and, if so, the motivations behind it.
