Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A woman escaped an attempted assault and robbery in Playa del Carmen after being attacked by several individuals while on her way to work in the Villas del Sol neighborhood, prompting a major police operation in the area.
According to authorities, the incident occurred in a secluded area at the intersection of Periférico and Constituyentes avenues, where the assailants intercepted the victim and forced her into a wooded zone. The woman reported that the attackers beat her to steal her belongings and attempted to assault her, but she resisted, causing them to flee. She also stated that they allegedly tried to remove her clothing.
A passerby called 911, leading Red Cross paramedics to treat the woman and transport her to a hospital. Security personnel launched an operation in the area, though no arrests have been reported so far.
Residents of the Villas del Sol neighborhood are demanding increased patrols, particularly in critical points and poorly lit areas, to prevent the peripheral zone from remaining a “blind spot” for crime.
