Tulum, Quintana Roo — Canel’s Racing drivers Rubén García Junior and Max Gutiérrez will arrive at the third round of the NASCAR Mexico Series in Tulum as the championship leader and runner-up, respectively, after strong performances in the opening races.
García Junior tops the standings with 95 points following two victories, while Gutiérrez sits second with 85 points. Both drivers expressed satisfaction with their positions but emphasized the need to continue developing their cars to maintain their advantage.
“I’m very happy with the team’s recent performance,” García Junior said. “We’ve had two races where we’ve worked to adapt as quickly as possible to the behavior of the new tires, since we’ve used two completely new compounds in the races so far. I think we’ve been the best at adapting to these changes, which allows us to maintain the championship lead. The season is still young, and we need to keep adding points race by race because what matters comes at the end.”
Gutiérrez acknowledged challenges in the previous race in Chiapas, where strategic precision helped secure a solid result. The upcoming event in Tulum will be run on a non-permanent track, requiring gradual adaptation to conditions.
“Chiapas was a complicated race—we went from less to more, fighting lap by lap,” Gutiérrez said. “In the end, it was a good result that allows us to maintain second place in the championship. Our goal as a team is to continue working at maximum effort race after race, going for the victory that will let us climb in the standings. We know it’s important to accumulate points for the final stretch.”
The top ten in the NASCAR Mexico Series standings are: Rubén García Junior (95 points), Max Gutiérrez (85), Rubén Rovelo (80), Alex de Alba (79), Eloy Sebastián (77), Helio Meza (72), Rodrigo Rejón (67), Julio Rejón (65), José Luis Ramírez (63), and Omar Jurado (61).
