Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Organizers have called for a protest following the cancellation of the Sacred Maya Crossing, an event organized by Grupo Xcaret that has sparked controversy and online criticism against Maya organizations that challenged the company.
The protest is scheduled for Saturday, April 18 at 4 p.m. at the former municipal palace in downtown Playa del Carmen. Organizers describe it as a peaceful demonstration aimed at highlighting public discontent and calling for a review of the Supreme Court decisions that led to the suspension.

The call targets participants, sectors linked to this tradition, and the more than 300 canoeists who would have taken part in the 19th edition of the crossing from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel. Business leaders and representatives from Maya communities in Quintana Roo who support the event are also expected to join.
Organizers stated that the crossing is not merely a tourist attraction but a living expression of Maya culture, and its suspension affects all those who have preserved it for years.
