Othón P. Blanco, Quintana Roo — Quintana Roo will soon regulate the use of scooters and other micromobility devices, with new rules requiring helmets and usage fees, state transit director Efraín García announced.
García explained that the measures will be part of an update to the state’s traffic regulations, which aims to adapt to new forms of mobility that have gained popularity in various cities across the state. The regulations have not been updated in several decades.
He detailed that users who fail to comply with these provisions could face sanctions as part of a scheme to reinforce road safety and organize the use of these light vehicles in public spaces.
García indicated that the reform initiative will be presented to the State Congress in the coming months, where the proposed modifications will be analyzed.
Authorities are aiming to establish clear rules for the use of scooters and other micromobility devices, given their growing presence in urban and tourist areas. The update will also address other mobility topics.
