QUINTANA ROO — Drivers can now renew certain Quintana Roo licenses online and have the new card delivered to their home, eliminating the need to visit an IMOVEQROO office.
The Quintana Roo Mobility Institute introduced the service in August 2026 for A1 automobile and A2 motorcycle licenses. It applies only to renewals of licenses previously issued through the state’s IMOVEQROO system. First-time applicants and people applying for other license categories must continue to complete their paperwork in person.
Both current and expired A1 and A2 licenses are eligible, according to information released by the agency.
How the online renewal works
Applicants begin at the official IMOVEQROO Driver Portal, where they enter their existing license number and CURP. They then select the length of the new license, complete the identity-verification process and pay the corresponding fee electronically.
Once approved, the physical license is sent by DHL to the address recorded on the applicant’s previous IMOVEQROO license. Shipment tracking is available online. The portal operates 24 hours a day.
Applicants need:
- A current or expired IMOVEQROO driver’s license
- A CURP
- A current INE voter identification card
- The completed electronic renewal application
- Online payment of the applicable license fee
The amount charged depends on the license category, period of validity and municipality. Applicants can review the amount before completing payment.
Important limitation for foreign residents
The online system currently requires validation of a valid INE card. That means foreign residents who do not hold Mexican citizenship and therefore do not have an INE cannot use the online renewal process as presently configured, even if they already hold a Quintana Roo driver’s license and have a CURP.
Those residents will still need to renew in person at an IMOVEQROO licensing office and present the immigration and identification documents required for their case.
The system also does not accept discounts, promotions or special benefits. Drivers eligible for an INAPAM senior discount or a disability-related reduction must renew at an office to claim it.
In-person service remains available
The online option does not replace IMOVEQROO’s licensing offices. They remain available for first-time applications, replacements, categories other than A1 and A2, discounted transactions and renewals that cannot be verified electronically.
In Playa del Carmen, the licensing module moved in July to Avenida La Salle at Avenida Hipocampo. It is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon, according to the Quintana Roo government.
Drivers using the new online service should enter the portal directly rather than following links supplied through messages or unofficial websites. The official address is portaldelconductor.imoveqroo.com.mx.
