Puerto Aventuras, Quintana Roo — A municipal official from Playa del Carmen was abducted at gunpoint Friday afternoon from a government office in Puerto Aventuras, according to initial reports. The victim was identified as Luis Esteban “N,” a coordinator with the Secretariat of Economic Development and Investment Attraction for the Playa del Carmen municipal government.

The incident occurred around midday at the agency’s office module, located next to the Puerto Aventuras mayor’s office near the intersection of Xiat and Chechén streets.

According to witnesses, three armed men violently entered the office while the official’s coworkers were present. The men forced Luis Esteban “N” into a brown Volkswagen Vento and fled in an unknown direction.

Municipal Police officers arrived shortly afterward and secured the area. The police base is located only a short distance from where the abduction took place, adding to concern among residents and municipal workers.

Personnel from the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office later arrived to begin the investigation.

Authorities have not yet released further details about the motive, whether the official has been located, or whether any suspects have been identified. Local reports circulating after the initial abduction indicated possible later developments, but those had not been clearly confirmed by authorities at the time of writing.
