Driver Escapes Serious Injury After SUV Crashes Near Puerto Aventuras

car crash near puerto aventuras

Puerto Aventuras, Quintana Roo — A driver escaped with minor injuries after a Nissan Rogue left Federal Highway 307 and struck a streetlight near Puerto Aventuras during wet road conditions.

The impact extensively damaged the SUV, which was reported as a total loss. The vehicle carried United States license plates, and initial reports described the driver as a foreign national.

Emergency personnel evaluated the driver at the scene. Although he reportedly suffered several minor blows, his injuries did not require transportation to a hospital. No other vehicles or injuries were reported.

Early accounts suggested that wet pavement and possibly excessive speed contributed to the crash. That determination remains preliminary, however. Investigators had not released an official finding on the cause at the time of publication.

Members of the National Guard’s highway division responded to the scene, documented the damage and conducted the initial investigation. Because the crash occurred on Federal Highway 307, the National Guard is responsible for the traffic report and the process of determining liability for damage to the lighting infrastructure.

The accident caused major damage to the vehicle but did not appear to result in a prolonged closure of the Playa del Carmen–Tulum highway.

The incident comes during the Riviera Maya’s rainy season, when standing water and reduced tire traction can make Highway 307 particularly hazardous. Mexico’s highway authorities advise motorists to reduce speed, increase their following distance and avoid sudden braking on wet pavement.

No official incident report identifying the driver or confirming whether citations would be issued was publicly available.
