Man Hospitalized After Apparent Crocodile Attack at Noh Bec Lagoon

Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo — A man was seriously injured Sunday evening in an apparent crocodile attack near the Noh Bec lagoon, prompting an emergency response and his transfer to a hospital in Felipe Carrillo Puerto.

Emergency dispatchers received the report of a person wounded by a reptile in the lagoon area of the Noh Bec community. Red Cross paramedics who responded were met on the way by a Public Security patrol assigned to the community, and the officers guided them to the victim.

The paramedics treated the man at the scene and then took him to the Hospital General de Felipe Carrillo Puerto, where he was admitted to the emergency department.

Initial reports said the man had serious injuries, apparently caused by the crocodile. His condition was still being assessed.

Authorities have not yet determined how the attack happened, including whether the victim was fishing at the lagoon or was near the edge of the water when the crocodile struck.

The episode has renewed concern about crocodiles in lagoons and other bodies of water in the Maya Zone, where residents and visitors can encounter the wild animals.
