Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A judge has ordered five people to stand trial for their alleged role in drug dealing in Playa del Carmen, the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office (FGE) announced.
The ruling, known in Mexico as a vinculación a proceso, followed an investigation by the State Prosecutor’s Office, which presented evidence to the judge and asked that the criminal proceedings continue.
Prosecutors said the case involves offenses against health linked to small-scale drug sales, known in Mexico as narcomenudeo, in the municipality of Solidaridad, where Playa del Carmen is located.
With the ruling, authorities can continue gathering evidence and pursue the investigation into the circumstances behind the allegations against the five suspects. All five will now face the remaining stages of the legal process under current state and federal rules.
Officials stressed that the decision is not a conviction and does not by itself establish guilt. The suspects are presumed innocent until a court reaches a final verdict.
