José María Morelos, Quintana Roo — Independent artists are organizing a Night Festival of Mayan Legends to preserve the stories and traditional knowledge of the region’s Maya communities, with the event set for Nov. 11 and 12 at the tourist parador in this city.
Iván Alberto Carrillo Ríos, a member of the Bacabó ob collective, said the gathering will bring together artists working across several disciplines, and will also set aside space for artisans and residents who want to share stories from their hometowns.

“It is important to rescue the stories of the communities, the knowledge of the peoples, to make them our own and to share them with the world,” Carrillo Ríos said.
Gustavo Ramón Pérez Canul said this will be the first time artists from different disciplines have joined a single project. The goal, he said, is to strengthen collaboration among local creators and ensure the festival is held every year.
Organizers said the event also aims to encourage reading and promote writers from José María Morelos, in connection with National Book Day. The invitation is open to the public, artisans and exhibitors, with activities beginning at 6 p.m. and designed to reinforce the cultural roots of the Maya Zone.
