Quintana Roo Prosecutor’s Office Releases Seized Playa del Carmen Property, Leaving Two Dogs Locked Inside for Three Days

Entrance of the home on Avenida 25 in Colonia Colosio, Playa del Carmen, where state prosecutors carried out a raid and later released the property

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office released a property in the Colosio neighborhood on Wednesday that it had raided and sealed two days earlier, offering no explanation for either the operation or the decision to hand it back — and leaving two dogs locked inside without food or water for three days.

Prosecutor’s Office agents entered the house on Avenida 25, between Avenidas Colosio and 70, on Monday night while its occupant was away. Neighbors said the raid struck them as suspicious from the start: although officials described it as a drug-dealing investigation, it was carried out in the resident’s absence, and when he returned home he was threatened and told to leave rather than detained.

The occupant, Alberto Molina García, said he has lived at the property for 18 years and works as a fisherman and construction worker.

The neighborhood residents’ association intervened through a lawyer in Playa del Carmen and also filed a complaint in Mexico City.

On Wednesday afternoon, Molina García received the document releasing his land, allowing him to remove the Prosecutor’s Office seals and return home.

His two dogs spent the three days alone, with no access to water or food.

The Prosecutor’s Office has not explained the raid or the release, nor said whether the operation was a mistake or — as neighbors suspect — an attempt to seize the property disguised as a criminal investigation.
