Police officers at a drug arrest scene in Cancun

Cancun, Quintana Roo — A man identified as Melquiades “N” was arrested in Benito Juárez on drug charges after authorities seized several doses of suspected illegal substances during a security patrol.

The arrest was carried out by officers from the Grupo Orion unit of the Public Security Department, in coordination with personnel from the Mexican Navy, the Mexican Army, and the National Guard.

According to the official report, agents were conducting preventive patrols on Leona Vicario Avenue in Cancun when they observed a man handling several transparent bags containing a green herb resembling marijuana. The bags fell to the ground, and as the man picked them up, he allegedly tried to get into a vehicle to leave the scene upon noticing the presence of authorities.

During a search, security personnel seized 15 ziploc bags containing dry green herb resembling marijuana, 13 bags containing a transparent solid substance resembling crystal meth, a dark blue Samsung cell phone, and a white Suzuki vehicle with Quintana Roo license plates.

Melquiades “N” was handed over to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Drug Dealing, which will continue the investigation and determine his legal status.
