Cancún, Quintana Roo — Gov. Mara Lezama opened the Fourth National Victims Assistance Meeting in Cancún on Tuesday, bringing together representatives from 19 states to strengthen coordination and support for crime victims.
During the inauguration, state Government Secretary Cristina Torres Gómez reported that the Executive Commission for Victim Assistance in Quintana Roo (CEAVEQROO) has provided 11,423 assistance measures to 2,229 victims between January and July 2026. Of those served, 1,589 were women and 640 were men.
The two-day gathering includes about 80 participants sharing experiences and strategies to improve institutional coordination. Discussion topics include support for families of missing persons, child and adolescent victims of femicide, human trafficking, and comprehensive reparations.
Also present at the opening were Martha Yuriria Rodríguez Estrada, executive commissioner of CEAVEQROO, and Arturo Medina Padilla, undersecretary for human rights, population and migration, who joined virtually.
During the sessions, participants will examine ways to strengthen victim support throughout the care and recovery process and to enhance the capacity of the institutions responsible for providing these services.
