Four Men Arrested in Playa del Carmen and Cancun for Stolen Vehicles and Drug Possession

Police officers detaining suspects in Playa del Carmen and Cancun for stolen vehicles and drug possession

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Authorities in Playa del Carmen and Cancun arrested four men on suspicion of drug dealing and vehicle theft, officials announced Sunday.

The suspects, identified as Carlos Leandro “N,” Santiago “N,” Adolfo Ángel “N,” and Agustín Elionai “N,” were taken into custody in separate operations and handed over to the State Prosecutor’s Office, which will determine their legal status within the constitutional deadline.

In the first operation, officers intercepted Carlos Leandro “N” and Santiago “N” riding a motorcycle at the intersection of Avenidas 19 and 135 in the Bellavista neighborhood of Playa del Carmen. During a search, police seized marijuana-like plant material, a crystalline substance resembling crystal meth, two cell phones, a pocketknife, and a knife. A check of the motorcycle revealed it had been reported stolen on April 13 from the La Guadalupana neighborhood.

In a second operation focused on recovering stolen vehicles, officers arrested Adolfo Ángel “N,” who was allegedly carrying dried plant material similar to marijuana, a crystalline substance, and two cell phones. He was riding a motorcycle reported stolen from the Residencial Sandos development in Playa del Carmen’s Playacar area.

The fourth arrest occurred in the parking lot of a supermarket at the intersection of Avenidas Andrés Quintana Roo and Kabah in Cancun. Investigative police spotted a Nissan with Chiapas license plates bearing a vehicle registration sticker that did not meet official standards. When the driver, identified as Agustín Elionai “N,” arrived, officers inspected the vehicle and found the engine number had been altered. They confirmed the car had been reported stolen in Michoacán state and arrested him.

Investigations continue to determine whether the suspects are linked to other crimes, including motorcycle theft in the region.
