Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Two men suffered electric shocks this afternoon while attempting to make an illegal connection to a medium-voltage power line in Playa del Carmen, local authorities said.
The incident occurred around 3 p.m. on Avenida Juárez, a short distance from La Lilis, in the irregular In House neighborhood.
Police and civil protection emergency crews arrived at the scene and found one injured person, along with cables the men had apparently been trying to install.
According to unofficial reports, one of the men was taken to the general hospital by his relatives, while the other — a young man — was treated at the scene by civil protection paramedics.
Employees of the CFE (Federal Electricity Commission) later arrived and confirmed what the two men had attempted to do.
After receiving medical attention, the man found at the scene was handed over to ministerial authorities to answer for the incident. The condition of the other injured man remains unknown.
