Cancún, Quintana Roo — Cancún has prepared 108 temporary shelters with capacity for more than 42,000 people as authorities track several weather systems in the Atlantic expected to bring heavy rain in the coming days.
The municipality has also intensified cleaning of storm drains, grates and drainage wells in flood-prone areas, aiming to let rainwater escape more quickly and reduce flood risk.
For visitors, the hotel sector has set up 15 on-site shelters, and a separate space is available to protect pets in an emergency.
Authorities are monitoring two low-pressure systems and Tropical Depression Cristóbal. One of the low-pressure systems has a high probability of developing into a cyclone, officials said.
The preparations are taking place before an emergency develops as part of risk-reduction measures. Residents are urged to stay informed through official sources, avoid rumors and have a family plan ready in case weather conditions change.
