Two Brush Fires in Playa del Carmen Raise Alarm During Heat Season

Firefighters spray water on a brush fire in a green area of Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Firefighters and civil protection personnel quickly extinguished two brush fires in Playa del Carmen on Saturday, burning about one hectare of vegetation in total, with no injuries reported.

The fires broke out in two locations: one along Boulevard Playa del Carmen at Avenida CTM, near the motocross area, and another in the Los Pájaros neighborhood. Emergency crews responded promptly to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby residential areas.

Municipal authorities attributed the increased fire risk to high seasonal temperatures combined with risky practices such as burning trash, discarding cigarette butts, and lighting campfires in open areas. They urged residents to avoid such behaviors and to report any signs of fire immediately.

The Playa del Carmen government emphasized that prevention is a shared responsibility and commended the work of firefighters and civil protection personnel, who remain on alert to protect residents and the natural environment.
