Mérida, Yucatán — The Mérida Carnival has selected its next royal court. On Thursday, organizers announced the queens and kings who will lead the 2027 edition of the city’s biggest festival.
The new court will promote joy, pride in local traditions, inclusion and environmental awareness, according to the city government. With the court now in place, the carnival begins its official countdown to an event that typically attracts thousands of families.
Meet the 2027 Mérida Carnival royal court
The main court includes:
- Queen: Andrea Joselyn Frías Ku
- King: Oscar Rodolfo Canul Mena
- Youth Queen: Verónica Mayrín Patrón Castillo
- Youth King: Randy Alonzo Medina Villamil
- Children’s Queen: Sofía Guadalupe Balam Medina
- Children’s King: Amaury Cano Medina
- Senior Queen: Hortencia Margarita Quiñones Leal
- Senior King: Jorge Alejandro Burgos May
As part of a commitment to inclusion by the city and the carnival committee, the court also includes four representatives in categories designated by the DIF Mérida system:
- Queen with physical disability: Elizabeth Victoria Chávez Sosa
- King with physical disability: Johan Rodolfo González Ortiz
- Queen with intellectual disability or neurodivergence (autism): Valentina Coello López
- King with intellectual disability or neurodivergence: Daniel Medina Sánchez
In total, 12 queens and kings will serve as ambassadors for one of the Yucatecan capital’s most iconic celebrations.
The 2027 edition of the Mérida Carnival will focus on inclusion, family togetherness, innovation and the strengthening of traditions, while keeping the festive spirit that draws thousands of attendees each year.
