Tulum, Quintana Roo — Authorities have identified a vehicle and detained a suspect in the investigation into a hit-and-run that killed two teenagers on Federal Highway 307 near Muyil, officials said Saturday.

Surveillance cameras from the C2 monitoring center spotted a silver Ford Lobo F-150 being transported on a tow truck toward Cancún. The pickup had visible front-end damage and a raised hood, matching the description of the vehicle involved in the crash that killed a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old near the José María Pino Suárez community.

Separately, municipal police arrested a 29-year-old man on Avenida Tulum on charges of resisting arrest and disobedience. While authorities have not confirmed his direct involvement in the fatal incident, they are investigating whether he has any connection to the case.

The deaths have sparked outrage among local residents, who are renewing calls for improved safety on the dangerous stretch of highway. The State Prosecutor’s Office continues its investigation to determine responsibility.
