Playa del Carmen Reallocates 430 Million Pesos to Public Works and Social Infrastructure

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The municipal planning committee approved the second modification to the city’s 2026 Annual Operating Program, reallocating more than 430 million pesos to public works and social infrastructure projects.

The decision came during the Eleventh Extraordinary Session of the Planning Committee for Development of the Municipality of Playa del Carmen (Coplademun), led by Mayor Estefanía Mercado. The total amount for construction and social programs is 430,404,621 pesos, funded by the Municipal Fortification Fund (Fortamun) and the Municipal Social Infrastructure Fund (Faismun). The change follows the cancellation of all projects previously planned with fiscal resources for the current fiscal year.

Rolando Méndez Navarro, secretary of Planning and Evaluation, said the adjustments include a new Fortamun-funded initiative to develop and operate a computer system for registering, processing, and paying the real estate acquisition tax (ISABI). The project carries an investment of 29,365,855.12 pesos.

Méndez Navarro added that other infrastructure projects were adjusted, with some funds redirected to boost municipal revenue collection and modernize administrative systems.

In social infrastructure, the modified program retains key projects such as facilities for people with disabilities, a new park in the Villamar I residential development, rehabilitation and expansion of the Temporary Assistance Home, the second phase of the drinking water network in the Cristo Rey neighborhood, construction and maintenance of absorption wells, and renovation of parks and the Women’s Care Center.

In total, the updated program covers 18 public works projects and four social actions.

During the same session, Nagib Eduardo Flores Jiménez, the city’s chief administrative officer, was sworn in as a new Coplademun member and will coordinate the Institutional Strengthening Subcommittee.
