PUERTO AVENTURAS, Quintana Roo — A group of men reportedly set fire to a bar and two nearby vehicles during an overnight attack near the highway-side entrance to Puerto Aventuras early Sunday, leaving one person with minor injuries and prompting a criminal investigation.
The attack occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. at El Paraíso, a bar reportedly located on Avenida Viveros near Federal Highway 307. The location is outside the gated marina and residential resort area commonly associated with Puerto Aventuras.
According to preliminary accounts, several men described as armed arrived at the establishment. Some allegedly surrounded the property while others entered the bar and threw incendiary devices described as Molotov cocktails, starting a fire inside.
Members of the group also reportedly threw incendiary devices at two vehicles parked beneath a white canopy next to the business and close to a residence. The owner contacted the 911 emergency system to request assistance.
Officers assigned to the Puerto Aventuras sector of the municipal Public Safety Department responded and called for reinforcements from Playa del Carmen. Firefighters were also dispatched to the scene.
Emergency crews brought the fires under control before they could spread further. The two vehicles sustained what local reports described as relatively minor exterior damage, but authorities had not released an estimate of the losses inside the bar. The establishment remained closed following the incident.
One person was treated at the scene for bruises and other minor injuries. Paramedics determined that hospitalization was not required, according to a separate local account of the attack.
Investigators reportedly recovered spent cartridge casings from the area. However, authorities had not confirmed whether the casings were connected to gunfire during Sunday’s attack or had been left there previously. Initial reports did not identify anyone as having suffered a gunshot wound.
Police secured the property so investigators from the Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office could examine the scene and collect evidence.
No arrests had been announced as of Sunday morning, and authorities had not publicly identified a motive. The attackers were also still unidentified.
The circumstances surrounding the incident—including whether the bar was specifically targeted and whether the attack was connected to any previous dispute—remain under investigation. No evidence has been released linking the incident to organized crime, extortion or any other particular criminal activity.
