Tulum, Quintana Roo — Tulum officials distributed blankets to vulnerable communities in Chemuyil and Akumal this week as temperatures dropped across the region, prioritizing children and elderly residents.
Tulum Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo led the distribution alongside the municipal DIF social services agency, aiming to protect the health and well-being of vulnerable populations during the winter season.
“When temperatures drop, it’s crucial not to let our guard down and to care for those who need it most,” Castañón said. “These actions are a small contribution to help our families have safer, warmer nights.”
DIF staff emphasized preventive measures including proper clothing for children and older adults, and monitoring for respiratory illness symptoms.
Recent reports indicate temperatures have fallen below seasonal averages in parts of Quintana Roo, prompting municipal and state authorities to strengthen community support programs and health recommendations.
