Chetumal, Quintana Roo — The ISSSTE (Institute for Social Security and Services for State Workers) will expand its hospital capacity in Quintana Roo with two new general hospitals, one in Cancún and one in Chetumal, Governor Mara Lezama announced.
New ISSSTE Hospital in Cancún
The Cancún hospital is being built on an 11,000-square-meter site where an abandoned Super ISSSTE store once stood. The project will integrate the new building with existing facilities, which will also be remodeled.
Capacity will increase from 20 to 90 beds. The facility will include a CT scanner, MRI, mammography, ultrasound and X-ray equipment, 16 hemodialysis stations, seven for chemotherapy, four for peritoneal dialysis, and specialized services.
“I am very pleased to share this important project with you. Quintana Roo will now be a state with two new general hospitals,” Lezama said.
General Hospital in Chetumal
In the state capital, a clinic is being converted into a general hospital. The new infrastructure aims to expand care and reduce waiting times.
The Cancún project includes 38 observation beds for emergency care, three shock/trauma rooms, operating theaters and specialized areas. Construction is currently in the foundation stage.
