Cancun, Quintana Roo — A man has been formally charged and ordered held on pretrial detention for his alleged involvement in the murder of a man whose body was discovered inside a trash container in the Villas Otoch neighborhood.

The State Prosecutor’s Office announced that Celso Elias “N” also faces charges for drug dealing after a judge deemed the evidence presented by prosecutors sufficient to proceed.

According to investigators, the suspect allegedly participated with four other individuals in an attack on the victim, which is believed to be linked to drug dealing activities. After beating the victim unconscious, they transported him to an abandoned house in Villas Otoch, where they continued the assault until he died.

The body was later abandoned in a trash container and was found on June 22.

Celso Elias was arrested following intelligence and field work by investigative agents. In a separate hearing, he was also charged with allegedly supplying marijuana.

As a precautionary measure, the judge ordered that he remain in pretrial detention for two years or until the judicial process concludes.
