Worker Dies After Being Hit by SUV While Crossing Boulevard in Playa del Carmen
Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A maintenance worker died early Monday after being struck by an SUV while trying to cross a boulevard near Calles 94 and 96.
According to initial reports, the victim was performing maintenance work in the area when a woman, approximately 24 years old, driving an SUV hit him as he attempted to cross the road.
The worker died at the scene, his body lying on the asphalt. A colleague remained at the site until emergency services and authorities arrived.
Witnesses preliminarily indicated the SUV was traveling at considerable speed, but also noted the pedestrian may have crossed without taking necessary precautions. The State Prosecutor’s Office will determine the accident’s cause and assign responsibility through expert investigations.
Officers from the Public Security Department cordoned off the area to facilitate investigations, while experts from the State Prosecutor’s Office collected the body and opened an inquiry to clarify the events.
