Tahmek gears up for 20,000 visitors at Paper Balloon Festival

Meeting between organizers and mototaxi operators to plan traffic routes for the Chinese Paper Balloon Festival in Tahmek, Yucatan.

Tahmek, Yucatán — Organizers of the eighth annual International Chinese Paper Balloon Festival met with mototaxi operators to map out traffic routes, fares, and safety protocols for the two-day event expected to draw more than 20,000 visitors this weekend.

The working session focused on establishing entry and exit routes to prevent traffic jams in the town. The festival will take place Saturday and Sunday at the San Lorenzo sports field in the Libertad neighborhood.

Municipal representatives and drivers agreed on circulation routes and a fare schedule. Organizers said the information will be published on the town council’s website and social media channels so residents and visitors can review the rates and route map.

Both sides also emphasized continued coordination with civil protection officials to ensure safety standards are met during every transfer. The event is expected to draw more than 20,000 people over the two days at the sports venue.

The joint effort aims to keep traffic flowing and manage the expected influx of visitors during the cultural event.
