Playa del Carmen Woman Charged With Torturing 8-Year-Old Daughter

A woman accused of torturing her 8-year-old daughter in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A judge ordered a woman held in preventive detention Thursday on charges that she tortured and abused her 8-year-old daughter, the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office said.

The judge formally bound Claudia Patricia N. over for trial on charges of domestic violence, aggravated assault and torture after the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Crimes Against Women and Gender-Based Reasons presented evidence, the agency said in a statement.

The case began when officers from the Specialized Group for Attention to Intra-Family and Gender Violence (GEAVIG) responded to an anonymous complaint of extreme child abuse at a home in the Villamar I subdivision. A medical examination found injuries of varying stages on the girl, consistent with repeated physical and psychological attacks, prosecutors said.

Investigators also linked Claudia Patricia N. to neglect, including withholding food, forcing the child to perform excessive household chores and keeping her locked inside for days, the statement said.

She was taken into custody after authorities executed an arrest warrant.
