Cancún, Quintana Roo — Costa Mujeres’ hotel sector expects the first segment of the resort corridor’s long-awaited road expansion to be completed by December, with construction reportedly on schedule.
Marissa Setién, executive president of the Costa Mujeres Association, said the industry has taken part in every progress meeting for the project, which will run the length of the tourist corridor and is now roughly 45 percent complete.
The first phase covers four kilometers of four-lane highway, representing an investment of 183 million pesos. Officials expect the stretch to be finished on time.
Two additional phases are planned. The second will run from Cancún’s López Portillo Avenue to La Angostura and Isla Blanca. The project is expected to benefit more than 22,000 vehicles daily along the tourist and hotel corridor, which receives more than six million visitors a year. The work also includes bike lanes, sidewalks, a central median, street lighting and drainage systems.
Setién also said the hotel industry continues to grow, with a fourth Riu property planned for the area featuring 600 rooms. While no construction start date has been announced, she described the region as a magnet for investment.
Costa Mujeres has consolidated its position as a luxury destination with 24 hotels and roughly 11,500 rooms, offering a mix of nature, gastronomy, culture, adventure and relaxation that sets it apart in the competitive Mexican Caribbean market.
