Cancún, Quintana Roo — More than 198,000 families in Quintana Roo have benefited from housing programs run by the Infonavit institute since the start of President Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration, the agency’s director general announced.
Octavio Romero Oropeza, head of the Mexican Social Security Institute’s housing fund, said the state has seen 190,000 mortgages considered unpayable restructured through the Infonavit Solución Integral program. This is part of a national effort covering 4.86 million loans.
“Thousands of workers in Quintana Roo have managed to recover the viability of their assets,” Romero Oropeza stated.
Additionally, as part of a regularization and legal certainty process, 8,500 mortgages in the state have been cleared, allowing families to obtain their property deeds at no cost and gain full security over their homes.
Construction and Delivery of Homes Advances
Alongside these financial supports, the institute is progressing with the construction and delivery of Viviendas del Bienestar (Well-being Homes) in the state. The fourth delivery in Quintana Roo occurred this week, with 80 homes handed over in the Infonavit Paraíso Maya subdivision in Benito Juárez municipality.
The event was led by Romero Oropeza and Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama. In this development, where 5,000 homes are projected, 512 beneficiaries have already purchased their houses.
Statewide, the goal for the current administration is to build 62,000 homes, representing an investment of over 37 billion pesos. So far, contracts have been signed for 32,000 homes—more than half the target.
The federal official indicated that the remaining 30,000 homes will be contracted this year, reaching the total projected goal for the state within the current government term.
During the event, Governor Mara Lezama said, “Today, thousands of workers in Quintana Roo see it as possible to access a dignified home, close to their jobs, with services and legal certainty for their families.”
