Ticul, Yucatán — A magnitude 3.7 earthquake struck northeast of Ticul in Mexico’s Yucatán state early Wednesday morning, authorities reported, with no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The Yucatán State Civil Protection Coordination (Procivy) announced the seismic event occurred at 2:34 a.m. local time on Wednesday, February 25. According to Mexico’s National Seismological Service (SSN), the quake registered a magnitude of 3.7 with an epicenter at latitude 20.53° and longitude -89.44°.
The tremor originated 18 kilometers northeast of Ticul municipality at a depth of 5 kilometers.
Civil protection officials quickly ruled out any risk to the population following preliminary assessments. No structural damage or injuries have been reported in surrounding municipalities.
Earthquakes in the Yucatán Peninsula are relatively uncommon, though the region has experienced several minor tremors in recent months. Authorities continue to monitor seismic activity in the area.
