Cancún, Quintana Roo — A public prosecutor agent was injured Friday morning after being struck by a public transit van while crossing a street on her way to work.
The incident occurred around 9:45 a.m. on Xcaret Avenue, directly in front of the State Prosecutor’s Office building. The agent, who works for the Common Jurisdiction Prosecutor’s Office, was attempting to cross the street when she was hit by a Maya Caribe company van with the fleet number 287.
Witnesses reported the woman was knocked onto her back on the asphalt by the impact. Bystanders and colleagues rushed to assist her while calling for an ambulance through the 911 emergency number.
Traffic police officers arrived quickly at the scene since the accident occurred just meters from their headquarters. They detained the van driver, who told them he couldn’t brake in time and consequently hit the woman.
Private paramedics arrived minutes later to provide pre-hospital care before transporting the injured agent to an ISSSTE clinic for medical treatment.
The driver was taken to the forensics department to determine responsibility, while his vehicle was towed to an impound lot.
