Two Suspects Arrested in Armed Robbery of Foreign Tourists in Cancún

Police operation in Cancún leading to arrests in tourist robbery case

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Authorities have arrested two suspects in connection with an armed robbery targeting two foreign women in Cancún’s tourist zone, officials announced Monday.

Police took Carlos “N,” known as “Flaco,” and a teenager into custody during a coordinated operation in the Bahía Real neighborhood of the Arco Norte area. The arrests involved personnel from the Mexican Army, Navy, National Guard, and Municipal Police.

During the arrests, officers seized an Italika motorcycle, a 9mm handgun, a ski mask, two black helmets, a backpack, and substances resembling marijuana and crystal meth.

Prosecutors said the suspects are believed to be part of a criminal gang involved in robberies, particularly targeting pedestrians, and drug sales.

The robbery occurred early on April 14 in the Supermanzana 27 area. According to authorities, two women were on Camarón Street when two men dressed in black approached on a motorcycle. A second red motorcycle with two more black-clad individuals arrived moments later.

The passenger on the first motorcycle brandished a firearm and stole the victims’ belongings, including 500 Australian dollars and two high-end cell phones. The assailants fled with their accomplices while the victims walked away without immediate assistance.

The State Prosecutor’s Office indicated the detained individuals may belong to a gang specializing in pedestrian robberies and drug sales in the Benito Juárez municipality. Investigations continue to locate other individuals connected to the case.

The two foreign victims received psychological support and legal guidance. Authorities have turned the suspects over to prosecutors, who will determine their legal status in coming hours.
