Tulum, Quintana Roo — Tulum Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo announced that his administration is investigating individuals allegedly issuing fake construction permits in the municipality, calling the situation serious and vowing it will not be tolerated.
The mayor said authorities have detected fake documents, including receipts and permits that were not issued by the proper officials. “We’re calling on developers because we’re learning that people are giving out fake licenses. We’re already investigating with the Prosecutor’s Office,” he stated.
Among the irregularities discovered are permits dated three to five months ago that were never officially processed. In response, Castañón Trejo urged developers and citizens to visit the Urban Development offices directly to verify their documents’ authenticity and complete procedures formally.
“Please go to the Urban Development office with the director so we can continue with the procedures. It’s very important,” he emphasized. He also reported that four to five identified individuals are currently under investigation for these actions.
However, he clarified that names cannot be revealed at this time because the process is ongoing and investigations must proceed according to the law.
The mayor reiterated that his government will act firmly against these irregular practices. “This is something we won’t allow in this administration. When we know who they are, we’ll say so,” he affirmed.
He warned that such actions pose risks to urban planning and legal certainty for those seeking to develop projects in the municipality, stressing the importance of conducting procedures only through official channels.
