Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A group of armed assailants robbed a Bodega Aurrerá store early Saturday morning, tying up the security guard and making off with an undisclosed amount of cash, authorities said.

The robbery occurred around 4 a.m. at the store located on Luis Donaldo Colosio Avenue and Playa del Carmen Boulevard. According to initial reports, several individuals entered the establishment and used force to subdue the security guard, binding his hands and feet and covering his mouth to prevent him from calling for help.

After neutralizing the guard, the suspects entered the administrative area and stole cash. Officials have not yet disclosed the amount taken.

Hours later, employees and managers arriving for work found the guard tied up inside the store and called 911.

Municipal police officers responded, cordoning off the area to preserve evidence. Investigators from the State Prosecutor’s Office later arrived to process the scene and opened an investigation to identify and locate the suspects.

Paramedics evaluated the security guard, who had minor bruises and marks on his limbs from the restraints, but he did not require hospitalization.

Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage from the store and nearby businesses, as well as gathering witness statements. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
