National Guard officers with seized packages of suspected cocaine at Cancun International Airport

Cancun, Quintana Roo — National Guard officers seized more than 12 kilograms of suspected cocaine at Cancun International Airport and arrested one person, authorities said.

The seizure occurred at Terminal 2 during routine security patrols with a canine unit. The dog alerted officers to the possible presence of illicit substances, leading them to discover 10 packages containing a white powder resembling cocaine, weighing approximately 12.38 kilograms.

The suspect and the seized drugs were handed over to the Federal Prosecutor’s Office in Benito Juarez, which will continue the investigation and determine the suspect’s legal status.

Last week, a person arriving from Medellin, Colombia, was arrested for attempting to transport more than 12 kilograms of suspected cocaine hidden in the back of a wheelchair.
