Authorities Arrest Four, Seize Drugs in Playa del Carmen and Cozumel Raids

Drugs seized by security forces during raids in Playa del Carmen and Cozumel, Quintana Roo.

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — State prosecutors, working with federal, state, and municipal security forces, arrested four people and seized suspected drugs during two raids in Playa del Carmen and Cozumel, the Quintana Roo Prosecutor’s Office (FGE) announced.

The searches were carried out by the FGE’s specialized unit for drug dealing offenses, in coordination with the Mexican Army, Navy, National Guard, and state and municipal police, the agency said.

Playa del Carmen Raid

At the first property, on Magnolia Street in the Misión de las Flores residential development, investigators found packages of dried plant material consistent with marijuana. Three people were detained near the home: two men both identified as Miguel Ángel N. and a woman named Naomi de Jesús N. Officers said the three were found carrying wrappers containing the same substance.

Cozumel Operation

The second warrant was executed at a property on Cisnes Street in the Flamingos II neighborhood on the island of Cozumel. Authorities seized wrappers with green plant material resembling marijuana and white powder consistent with cocaine.

A woman identified as Samantha Guadalupe N. was arrested near the property in possession of suspected marijuana, the FGE said.

All four suspects and the seized drugs were turned over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which will determine their legal status.
