Two Missing Children Found Safe in Costa Mujeres After Overnight Search

Missing children found safe in Costa Mujeres

Costa Mujeres, Quintana Roo — Two siblings, ages 10 and 13, were found safe Saturday morning on the Ramal Norte highway in the mainland area of Isla Mujeres, after being reported missing since Friday evening when they allegedly left the 10th Military Police Brigade compound.

The disappearance triggered a large-scale search involving National Guard, Mexican Army, and state police officers, who combed the El Ramal Norte neighborhood and surrounding areas.

According to initial reports, security cameras captured the minors leaving the military facility around 6 p.m. carrying backpacks and accompanied by two pug dogs. However, their absence was not noticed until approximately 9 p.m., when search protocols were activated.

It remains unclear how the children managed to exit the federal installation, which has strict security checkpoints for people and vehicles.

Throughout the night, authorities searched green areas, construction sites, and nearby roads, while residents of El Ramal Norte voluntarily joined the effort with flashlights, motorcycles, and mototaxis. The state police helicopter Águila 2 conducted aerial sweeps, and drones were used to inspect hard-to-reach areas.

No official statement has been issued regarding the circumstances of the children’s presence at the military brigade, though unofficial sources suggest they may be children of a National Guard member.

The search concluded around 7 a.m. Saturday when both minors were found on the Ramal Norte highway. Photos shared on social media show the children next to a road sign as a white Nissan Sentra drove away from the scene; the vehicle is believed to have dropped them off.

National Guard officers and municipal authorities secured the children and took them to safety. Minutes later, the vehicle was found abandoned on Calle Geranios 9, near the corner of Jacarandas in the Villas del Mar Plus subdivision, and was seized.
