Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Two people were arrested and two motorcycles seized Friday after a police operation in the Las Torres neighborhood, following an attack on state investigators executing a court order.
According to officials, agents from the State Prosecutor’s Office (FGE) were carrying out ministerial duties when they were physically assaulted by a group of hostile individuals trying to obstruct their work. The investigators called for backup over their radio frequencies, prompting a response from all three levels of government, including the Public Security Department (SSC), which immediately deployed patrols to the scene.
The incident occurred near the Bali residential complex, in the area known as Las Torres. Reports indicate the investigators entered the Third Tower sector to serve a judicial warrant when the attack began.
As tensions escalated and the aggressors outnumbered the officers, the investigators fired warning shots into the air as a deterrent and crowd-control measure to ensure their safety.
State police later secured the perimeter, and a tactical unit known as Albatros established a security cordon to prevent further disturbances. Once the situation was under control, officers arrested two suspects allegedly involved in the assault and obstruction of justice. Two motorcycles believed to have been used by the suspects were also seized.
The FGE is expected to release an official statement detailing the specific charges related to the original warrant and the legal status of the detainees.
