Cancún, Quintana Roo — Authorities in Cancún are investigating the death of a 9-year-old boy who was found lifeless inside his family’s home in the Villas del Mar 3 subdivision, in Supermanzana 248, an incident that drew police and emergency crews to the neighborhood.
The boy was discovered in one of the bedrooms of the house, located on Calle Petunia at its intersection with Girasoles. According to initial reports, he had an object around his neck, and the child appeared to have suffered injuries to that area, though officials have not confirmed that detail.
Officers and emergency crews responded
After receiving the report, Municipal Police officers went to the address along with personnel from the Specialized Group for Attention to Family and Gender Violence (Geavig), whose members took part in the first stage of the proceedings.
Red Cross paramedics arrived minutes later to assess the boy, but confirmed on examination that he no longer had vital signs.
Officers cordoned off the property to preserve the scene and allow investigators to work, while news of the death drew neighbors to the surrounding streets.
The case was then turned over to the State Prosecutor’s Office (FGE). Investigative police and forensic experts went to the home to carry out required procedures and collect evidence that could help clarify what happened.
Once the forensic work at the house was completed, the boy’s body was removed and taken to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo), where an autopsy will be performed.
Cause of death still undetermined
As of Thursday evening, authorities had not publicly disclosed the circumstances in which the boy was found or the cause of his death. The autopsy results and interviews conducted as part of the investigation are expected to clarify both questions.
The State Prosecutor’s Office is leading the case and must determine what happened inside the home and whether there are grounds to pursue other lines of investigation.
