Cancún, Quintana Roo — The world of The Little Prince has landed at Cancún’s Ka’Yok’ Planetarium, offering an immersive experience designed for the whole family. The exhibit, which will remain in the destination for at least three months, features multiple specially adapted rooms, including a 360-degree screen, virtual reality sessions with headsets, and a theatrical performance—all centered around the beloved character’s journey.

Blending Literature, Culture, and Science

The exhibit opened to the public on April 13 and has already drawn significant attendance. Tania Martínez González, director of the planetarium, emphasized the exhibit’s unique approach to connecting culture, literature, and science.

“This is an opportunity to link The Little Prince with culture, literature, and the humanities while also promoting science, which is our primary mission here,” Martínez González said. She described the exhibit as a novel way to spark curiosity, encourage scientific interest, and reinforce values, as the story explores themes of life’s meaning and the innocence of childhood.

A Traveling Exhibition with Interactive Elements

The exhibit, which has previously been showcased in Mexico City and Querétaro, includes interactive drawing stations, photographs, and a fully immersive experience inspired by The Little Prince.

Isabel Peláez, from the company Sensea, which created the exhibit, explained its objectives: “This experience aims to bring the public closer to reading and scientific outreach through interactive spaces with immersive technologies. ‘Immersive’ means the visitor feels transported into an atmosphere created with technology, such as virtual reality, projections, and interactive floors. We ensure the exhibit isn’t just about screens—there are guided interactions to make the content engaging and accessible.”

Theatrical Performances and Extended Run

Ramón Isaac of Marea Escénica invited the public to attend theatrical performances tied to the exhibit, held every Sunday at 5 p.m. The play, which has been performed in over 25 Mexican states as well as Costa Rica and El Salvador, has been remastered for this project.

“We’ll be performing every Sunday, with additional weekday shows for school groups. This is a new version of the play, specifically adapted for this exhibit,” Isaac said.

If the response remains positive, the exhibit could be extended to five months. Ticket prices are set at 300 pesos for general admission, with discounts for Quintana Roo residents (280 pesos) and seniors, individuals with disabilities, children, teachers, and students (180 pesos).

The planetarium has reported an increase in visitors since the exhibit’s opening, reinforcing its role as a hub for cultural and scientific engagement.
