Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Families in Playa del Carmen will have a new free entertainment option close to home this September, as the Cine en tu Colonia program brings surprise movie screenings to five neighborhoods in the municipality of Solidaridad.
The initiative, organized by the municipal government through its Citizen Participation Department and the Secretariat of Social Justice and Citizen Participation, will use sports courts and domes as community gathering spaces. All five screenings are free and open to the public.
Screenings will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the following dates:
- Thursday, Sept. 3: Privadas El Edén — sports court on Calle Ariel, in front of the INFONAVIT offices.
- Thursday, Sept. 10: Bellavista — sports dome at 120 Avenida Sur, between Calles 1 Sur and 3 Sur.
- Thursday, Sept. 17: Villas del Sol — sports court on Avenida CTM at Cerrada Pavito Migratorio.
- Thursday, Sept. 24: Bosque Real — sports dome on Calle Monte Daro, between Calle Monte Atlas and Cerrada Los Pinos 2.
- Wednesday, Sept. 30: Forjadores — sports dome at 110 Avenida Sur, between Calles 15 and 17 Sur.
The program is designed for audiences of all ages, including children, teens, adults and families. Movie titles are being kept under wraps; organizers said the films will be announced at each event.
By converting everyday sports facilities into temporary screening venues, the city hopes to encourage neighborly interaction and make entertainment more accessible to residents who live outside the downtown area.
Residents are encouraged to follow the municipality’s official channels for any updates to the schedule.
