Mérida, Yucatán — Yucatán has been selected to host nine sporting disciplines during the 2025 National Olympics, prompting the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sports (CONADE) to begin inspections of the venues that will accommodate athletes from across Mexico. The competitions are scheduled to take place from May 27 to July 13.
Venue Inspections Underway
CONADE officials are assessing necessary upgrades to ensure facilities meet competition standards. The Rowing and Canoeing Track in Progreso requires the most extensive maintenance, including dredging along its 2,000-meter course to remove accumulated sediment. Additionally, the judges' tower, built in 1999, needs structural repairs, along with dock areas and boat storage facilities.
Once dredging is completed, lane markers will be reinstalled, and mid-course judges' stations will be rehabilitated. Rowing and canoeing events are slated for June 24 to July 13.
Competition Venues
The following locations will host events:
- Kukulcán Sports Complex: Fencing and karate.
- Progreso Port: Sailing and triathlon.
- La Plancha Park: Skateboarding (no major modifications needed, as it recently hosted a national qualifying event).
- Telchac: Open water swimming.
- City Fields: Softball (exact location yet to be determined, scheduled for June 10–16).
State and Federal Coordination
Yucatán Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena and CONADE are collaborating to provide logistical support for athletes, including transportation, lodging, meals, and uniforms. Other host states for the 2025 National Olympics include Tlaxcala, Jalisco, Colima, and Puebla.
The preparations underscore Yucatán’s commitment to fostering elite athletic competition while upgrading its sports infrastructure.
