Cancun, Quintana Roo — Seven public beaches in Cancun have retained their Blue Flag certification after passing an audit conducted by the Foundation for Environmental Education in Mexico from May 4 to 6, ensuring safe and sustainable spaces for visitors.

The comprehensive evaluation covered beaches managed by the Benito Juarez municipal government through the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (ZOFEMAT). The beaches that kept the international certification are:

  • Del Niño
  • Las Perlas
  • Chac Mool
  • Marlín
  • Ballenas
  • Delfines
  • Coral

Auditors from FEE Mexico conducted physical and documentary checks to verify compliance with 33 international criteria. Inspections covered access points, signage, services, and infrastructure at each beach. According to the municipal report, the criteria fall into four categories: water quality, environmental education, safety and services, and environmental management.

To ensure sustainability and user safety, the municipality conducts monthly water quality sampling. These tests measure levels of E. coli and fecal enterococci bacteria, confirming that conditions are optimal for swimmers.
