Chetumal, Mexico — Health authorities in Quintana Roo have intensified epidemiological surveillance and coordination measures in response to the global resurgence of measles, driven by high population mobility in the state.
The State Committee for Health Security held its First Extraordinary Session of 2026 to review and update action protocols, strengthen hospital and health center response capacity, and ensure uniform care across Quintana Roo in case of suspected measles cases. Officials emphasized the need to provide clear, evidence-based information to the public to prevent misinformation and unnecessary alarm.
Key agreements included enhancing inter-institutional coordination and continuously updating operational guidelines, with defined care schemes to promptly identify suspected cases and activate corresponding protocols.
Vaccination remains the primary preventive measure in the state, with free measles, rubella, and mumps vaccines available through modules, macrocenters, and permanent posts in medical units across various municipalities.
The committee highlighted that intense tourism, migration, and labor activity in Quintana Roo require constant epidemiological vigilance and a coordinated response statewide, especially in areas with higher population density.
