Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Sewer line installation work on Constituyentes Avenue, in the area connecting to neighborhoods such as Misión de las Flores, must be completed by June, and the contractor is required to fully repave the affected roadway, according to Liane Ake Sierra, Secretary of Infrastructure and Public Works.
The official said the project, carried out by developer CADU, is part of installing basic services for new housing developments and has been authorized by the relevant concessionaire.
She stressed that partial repairs will not be accepted.
“The commitment is that the road will not be left patched; the entire section will be repaved,” she said.
During construction, traffic disruptions have occurred, particularly on Avenida de los Olivos, where bottlenecks form at various times of the day. Authorities have asked drivers to use alternate routes until work is complete.
“We know there are mobility impacts, which is why we are asking the public to use alternate routes,” Ake Sierra said.
She explained that intervening on Constituyentes was the only viable option after analyzing alternatives with agencies and the company, as other nearby areas already have infrastructure installed.
“There was no other alternative; opening other roads would have caused more problems,” she said.
Regarding the flooding that often occurs in the area during the rainy season, Ake Sierra noted that absorption wells have been built to mitigate the issue, improving water flow during recent rains.
“In some points, works have already been done that have helped prevent water accumulation,” she said.
She acknowledged that the municipality has many road rehabilitation needs, though not all can be addressed in the short term due to budget constraints.
“The needs are many, but we will move forward little by little to improve road infrastructure,” she concluded.
