Playa del Carmen, Mexico — Residents of the 28 de Julio neighborhood, formerly known as Nueva Creación, have asked authorities to install speed bumps and trim trees that block visibility of traffic signs at the intersection of Avenida de las Naciones and Calle Cobá.
According to local residents, frequent traffic accidents occur at this intersection because drivers fail to see the signs, which remain partially hidden by overgrown vegetation. While no serious injuries have been reported so far, property damage and financial losses have been significant.
Neighbors say at least one crash happens weekly, primarily due to speeding and confusion among motorists who cannot clearly identify the mandatory stop signs at the corners. Just this Monday, a taxi driver traveling on Avenida de las Naciones ran a stop sign and collided with a truck that had the right of way, causing a serious accident. The impact sent the truck into three parked vehicles.
In response to these recurring incidents, residents say they have already filed formal reports and requests with the appropriate authorities to install speed-reducing bumps and trim trees, ensuring proper visibility of signage and preventing more serious accidents.
